The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) is a public trust established in 2006 by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the regulator of the securities markets in India. The institute carries out a wide range of capacity building activities at various levels aimed at enhancing the quality standards in securities markets.

National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) jointly with Systemic Research Centre – London School of Economics (LSE-SRC) organised two-day conference on Rebooting Financial Regulation: Ways and Means on January 20 and 21, 2022 at 2:00 pm to 5:45 pm (IST) which is 8:30 am to 12:15 pm (London time). The conference focused on contemporary regulatory issues of global interest. The conference opening remarks were provided by DR. CKG Nair, Director NISM and Dr. JP Zigrand, Director, SRC – LSE.

DAY 1 the key speakers included Dr. CKG Nair addressed on the topic “Regulatory Architecture: Inadequate attention on ‘second-order’ structures” which was followed by presentation by Dr. Kevin R. James on “Growth, Financial Markets, and Regulation: We Need A New Drug”.

The session 2 of day 1 had the talk by Dr. Peter Andrews on “Clear and Measurable Tools for Enhancing Regulatory Accountability” and presentation by Mr. Ajit Balakrishnan on “The Coming Algorithmic Financial Regulatory Era”.

DAY 2 session speakers included Mr. Ananta Barua who spoke on “Balancing Objectives of Financial Regulation: Development, Regulation & Investor Protection” followed by Dr. Eva Micheler who spoke on the topic of “The Role of Culture in Corporate Law”.

The second session had speakers Dr. MS Sahoo on “Insolvency Regulations: Reforming the Market and Marketing the Reform” and Dr. Amil Dasgupta on “Institutional Investors and Corporate Governance: Some thoughts on India”.

The conference was conducted in online mode. It was attended by academics, and market practitioners from India and Europe.

The conference ended with a Vote of thanks by Dr. Jon Dannielson and Dr. Latha Chari.
