The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) is a public trust established in 2006 by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the regulator of the securities markets in India. The institute carries out a wide range of capacity building activities at various levels aimed at enhancing the quality standards in securities markets.

Orientation of LL.M. (I & SL) 2022-23 Batch was held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at NISM, Patalganga Campus.

Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Programme Director, LL.M (I&SL) welcomed the Guests, faculty and students.

Mr. Sunil J. Kadam, Registrar, NISM in his address spoke about the history of Capital and Securities Markets and the fast paced changes in these markets. He highlighted the role of SEBI as the regulator of Securities Markets. He briefly touched upon disclosure based regime and scope of the SEBI Act. He further appealed the students to take full benefit of the course as well as the Campus. He stressed the need for Learning through case studies as they will provide a long lasting understanding about the subject.

Dr. Anil G. Variath, Registrar, MNLU, Mumbai complimented the students for joining the programme, and highlighted the changes in Law over the period of time. Dr. Variath deliberated on Dispute Resolution mechanisms and development of non-litigating advocacy which have come up prominently in recent years.

Dr. Rachana Baid, Professor and Dean (Academics), NISM congratulated the students and advised the students that their skill sets should not be restricted only to understand the laws and regulations, but also for having substantive knowledge about investments and securities markets. She emphasized that as students everyone should develop the Networking Skills as “Network is Net worth”

Dr. Kiran Rai, Associate Professor and HOD, MNLU, during her address praised the students for securing admission in this one and only unique programme where the students will get an opportunity to learn the changing trends in Investments and Securities Laws. She said that time has come to go beyond the text books and come out of the repeated all time case laws and should be in search of new and contemporary developments and pronouncements.

54 students from across the country, including NRIs, have joined the programme.
