The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) is a public trust established in 2006 by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the regulator of the securities markets in India. The institute carries out a wide range of capacity building activities at various levels aimed at enhancing the quality standards in securities markets.

Inauguration of Chanakya Hall

National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) inaugurated its newly set-up training facility – the ‘Chanakya Hall’ – in its Chennai Office, on the 26th of November, 2019. Shri SK Mohanty, Whole Time Member – SEBI & Director – NISM, presided over the inauguration ceremony. Shri B. Rajendran, Regional Director – SEBI South Regional Office and Shri Sahil Malik, General Manager – SEBI & Head – Marketing, Placements and Communications – NISM, also graced the occasion.

NISM’s Chennai Office commenced its operations from May 2013, as a full-capacity test centre for NISM Certifications. This Office at Thousand Lights (on the Mount Road) is strategically located in proximity to the securities markets regulator, reputed fund houses, brokerage firms, registrars and other market intermediaries. More than 250 individuals take certification examinations every week, making it one of the busiest test centres of NISM Certifications.

NISM, in realization of the growing training requirements among financial institutions in South India, has set-up the 35-seater ‘Chanakya Hall’ in Chennai. The inaugural ceremony, that was held at 4 pm on 26th November, had rich representation from stock exchanges, depositories, fund houses and other intermediaries. Shri SK Mohanty lightened the lamp to symbolize the inauguration of Chanakya Hall.

Shri Mohanty, who then addressed the gathering, shared his experience as the Director of the Institute. He provided a holistic perspective of NISM’s six schools of excellence and highlighted NISM’s key strengths. Shri B. Rajendran, who talked after the Director, wished the Chanakya Hall all success in its endeavour to professionalize the industry. Shri Sahil Malik provided a snap-shot of various training activities being conducted by NISM. He then interacted with the guests on how NISM and financial institutions can work together towards professionalizing the securities markets. The inauguration ceremony was signed-off with high tea.

NISM strongly believes that the Chanakya Hall will reinforce NISM’s vision of enhancing the quality of securities markets!
